Getting Started

Equipment Setup Guide

Learn how to unbox, assemble, and power on a GrowBru kit. This guide stays close to the hardware and limits itself to the first pass of setup and verification.

⏱️ Time required: 2–4 hours for a first build and basic checks

What's in Your Kit

The part names below are the labels you will see on the boxes and boards. You only need to know what each part does and how it connects.

Core Electronics

Sensors and What They Do

Assembly Steps

Step 1: Enclosure Prep

  1. Open the waterproof project box
  2. Drill holes for sensor cable glands
  3. Mount the Raspberry Pi using spacers or standoffs
  4. Mount the relay board next to the Pi

Step 2: Sensor Wiring (shared sensor connection)

BME280 and BH1750 can share the same sensor connection when their addresses do not conflict.

Step 3: DS18B20 Water Sensor

⚠️ Critical: This sensor usually needs a pull-up resistor so the signal stays stable. Check the probe's wiring before powering it.

Step 4: Relay Board Wiring

Step 5: Power Wiring

Keep the Pi's low-voltage side separate from the 12V device side.

⚠️ Verify the relay board instructions before turning on the 12V side.

Sensor Calibration

pH Sensor Calibration

  1. Use reference solutions that match the sensor range you want to cover
  2. Record the raw reading in each reference solution
  3. Enter those points into your calibration workflow
  4. Recheck calibration on a schedule that fits how often the sensor is used

EC/TDS Sensor

Use conductivity standards near the range you expect to measure. Recalibrate if the readings drift or after maintenance.
